Rowan Rugby fields two separate sides during the fall 15s season.
The A side is comprised of the highest performing players in the program. A typical member of the A side is an upperclassman with several years experience playing B side. However, high achieving players can win a starting position regardless of their class year. The B side consists of experienced players actively striving for the honor of wearing a Rowan A side jersey. With over 50 players on the roster, competition is fierce for starting positions and practices are as competitive as matches. Rowan’s A and B side players are guided by an experienced six-man coaching staff, including specialists in areas such as scrummaging, kicking and skills development.
As of 2021, Rowan competes in the National Collegiate Rugby Mid Atlantic Rugby Conference D1AA Division. The Profs have previously won three conference championships, qualified for the national playoffs four times, reached the Sweet 16 four times, the Elite 8 three times and finished ranked #5 nationally. In addition, Rowan finished 2015 and 2016 undefeated for two consecutive conference seasons. The Profs did not lose a home match between 2010-2018.
Competing in DIAA for the first time in 2017, the Profs were undefeated in regular season conference play and reached the MARC finals before losing. Rowan was rewarded with a spot in the national playoffs where they bowed out in the Sweet 16. The team finished the season ranked #16 in DIAA and in the top 50 of all DIA and DIAA teams combined. At the conclusion of the season, two players were named in FloRugby’s all-DIAA team. In addition, one other player was named to the DIAA all-freshman team.
After a long lay off due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, and only a handful of friendly matches in the spring of 2021, the Profs look forward to the return to competition in MARC conference play this fall.
