Rowan Stumbles Against Delaware

On Saturday, October 26, the Rowan Rugby team dropped a home match to the University of Delaware 39-26.  A lack of discipline and defensive effort doomed the Profs in a dismal day for the program.
The Profs entered the game with a 3-2-1 record, while Delaware had only one win in six games.  Delaware seemed undeterred by their lack of success and came out firing against Rowan.  Using superior speed and ball movement, the Delaware team cut Rowan into ribbons as the Prof players missed a startling number of one on one tackles.   Their cause was not helped, either, by running up a large penalty count against themselves.  For much of the game, it appeared that the Rowan players did not want to tackle the opposition and Delaware took full advantage by running in try after try in a shocking defensive display by the Profs.  At half, the score was 29-5 in favor of Delaware.
Although the Profs mounted a spirited comeback in the second half, spearheaded by the reserves who came in after the half, it was not enough to overcome the halftime deficit.  Rowan did close the score to 7 points with 5 minutes left, but failed to secure lineout ball deep in Delware’s end and then conceded another try with time running out.
The Profs face off against the University of Pitt in their final game next Saturday.
